Our Atelier in the Atlas Mountains Where Craftsmanship Lives.

A Barbary Wool rug does not begin with a middleman, but in our own atelier in Morocco. A place where our craftswomen work on our rugs every day and where traditional Amazigh craftsmanship remains at the heart of everything we do.

Having our own atelier was a conscious choice. It requires a significant investment, but gives us something far more valuable: control over the entire process. From preparation and design to knotting, washing and finishing. This allows us to closely oversee the quality at every stage, without depending on intermediaries.

It all begins with the loom

Our atelier is equipped with steel looms in different sizes. For every new rug, we first reserve a suitable loom. It is carefully prepared to the correct dimensions, with the warp threads evenly tensioned before the knotting begins.
We deliberately chose steel rather than wooden looms. Steel provides greater stability and allows our craftswomen to work with precision and consistent tension. This is reflected in the shape, quality and finishing of every rug.

An ancient craft in a modern atelier

The techniques used to knot our rugs are part of a centuries-old Amazigh tradition, passed down from generation to generation. We do not want to change the craft itself. Instead, we continue to improve the environment in which it is practised.
Our atelier is designed to be a comfortable and professional place to work. Our craftswomen have a say in how the space is arranged and what they need to do their work comfortably. Because preserving a craft also means investing in the people who carry it forward.

Fair work starts with responsibility

Having our own atelier also means taking responsibility. Our craftswomen work directly with Barbary Wool and receive a fair wage for their craftsmanship. Without a chain of intermediaries, we can oversee this ourselves.
It requires more organisation and investment than simply sourcing finished rugs, but it is exactly how we choose to work. Our atelier is therefore more than the place where our rugs are made. It is the heart of Barbary Wool: where centuries-old craftsmanship, quality and the future of the craft come together.

Craftsmanship is our strength.
